The Food Project in Boston brings together teenagers and adults from diverse backgrounds and engages them in an effort to build a sustainable food system. It farms on 70 acres of urban and suburban land using methods of sustainable agriculture. The Food Project offers training and leadership opportunities for young people as well as a personal connection to the food system and issues of food justice. The food is distributed to hunger relief organizations and sold at a reduced price in farmers’ markets in low-income areas. The Food Project also helps local families and schools to build and maintain their own gardens and engages in other community and food justice initiatives.
This post is part of a series on on organizations and leaders who engage in multisolving, or climate-smart policies that simultaneously work to mitigate climate change while providing co-benefits such as the ones described above.
