Energy upgrades are perhaps the most valuable home upgrade one can make. Money-wise, a recent home remodeling study found that in addition to lower utility bills, attic insulation projects recouped 117% of their cost in home resale value. Adding to this benefit, energy efficiency projects have been shown by the National Association of Realtors to bring high levels of joy and comfort to homeowners. These retrofits will also help to improve health and lower the incidences of asthma and other respiratory or circulatory issues, especially in areas of lower quality housing or high pollution.
**Climate Protection: **Lowers carbon emissions from energy usage Energy & Mobility: Reduces energy demand **Jobs & Assets: **Increases assets to homeowners with lower energy bills and higher home values Health, Well-Being, & Safety: Improves health of residents by lowering pollution Connection: Allows homeowners increased control over their home systems
This post is part of a series on examples of multisolving, or climate-smart policies that simultaneously work to mitigate climate change while providing co-benefits such as the ones described above. The multiple benefits analysis was done using the FLOWER framework.
