COY Round table at the Conference of Youth - Responsibility of States and INDC: how are north-south lines being blurred?

Date: Friday, December 27

Time: 4 - 5:30 PM

Description: On the eve of COP21, some states have revealed very ambitious contributions. Among them, some are famous for being main casualties in the face of climate change, even though they are hardly responsible for global warming. Other states, among the major polluters, do not match citizens’ expectations. There is still much uncertainty as to what will happen regarding financing climate change adaptation, its very nature and its strategy. Yet this issue influences the implementation of development plans for the global south. So, what is the balance of power before COP21? Who should pay for what and using which tools? Ellie Johnston will be a panelist for this round table. More information on the Conference of Youth here: http://coy11.org/en/

World Climate COP21 Simulation

Title: Interactive Simulation of UN Climate Negotiations

Date: Friday, December 4

Time: 11 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: The Climate Generations Area outside the COP21 conference center

Cost: Free and open to the public

Description: Climate Interactive will offer a chance to explore potential pathways to address climate change through an interactive demonstration of the World Climate game and computer simulations C-ROADS and En-ROADS. Put yourself in the shoes of the climate negotiators to see what it will take. Analysis of the INDC pledges will be offered alongside a framework for understanding how climate solutions can and must address other challenges simultaneously.

The event will help deepen understanding of the level of action needed to reach the goal of keeping climate change within 2degC and also meeting the needs of people worldwide. Additional objectives include:

  1. Giving participants tools that they can use themselves to evaluate climate pledges.
  2. Engage participants in a global network of people working with groups to educate others about climate action.
  3. Cultivate understanding of the pathways that still exist to meet our climate goals.
